Transition Breakdown
The effective pole rating accounts for the printed pole rating and how far below the top of the pole the athlete is gripping. Pole length itself does not add or subtract pounds from the effective rating.
Slow Progressions Are the Best Progressions
Try to grip no more than 3 inches higher at a time.
Try not to move to a pole more than 6 inches longer.
Try to move to a pole no more than 5–10 lb heavier at a time.
When possible, try to change only one of these variables at a time.
