Are you constantly trying to figure out how to pole vault? Whether you’re a pole vaulter chasing personal records or a coach trying to coach them, The Pole Vault Toolbox is the blueprint.
In this book, Shawn shares the tools he’s learned as a professional pole vault coach and the drills that have helped thousands of athletes and coaches jump personal records that have broken state records, won state medals, and received college scholarships.
He shares the research he learned as a pole vault researcher like a vaulters take-off step may not be as important as originally thought.
Finally, he reveals what he learned as an elite pole vaulter on overcoming the fear of moving up to bigger poles or what to do if you struggle running though.
Filled with his trademark humor, The Pole Vault Toolbox is invaluable for veterans in the sport as well as those who just picked up a pole for the first time, drawing from Shawn’s personal and often humbling experiences.

Being that I'm starting my second season as a pole vault coach. And last year was the schools first ever pole vault team. The Book is going over some ideas that will help me with my coaching.
From the review title, you might think that "Life Changing" would be an exaggeration, but it isn't. I initially bought this book because I felt that I needed more information about pole vaulting in addition to the coaching that I got at school. I began pole vaulting very late into track season (May of 2021) and I was one of three pole vaulters in the entire district and as you can imagine, its a lot of pressure. My track coaches moved me up to varsity after vaulting for only three weeks in order to make it to CIF-SS (I didn't make the standards either way). Fast forward to now, I can only jump 7'6 and during practices, I constantly psych out. I don't think I have made it into the pit in about two weeks. My coach and I made so many changes to my run, plant, etc that I didn't know what to do because there was wayyy too much to absorb. This book really told me to slow things down, especially when recovering from injuries (sending me back to when I fell back onto the runway). I absolutely love the advice that Mr. Shawn gives to athletes like me and I hope that others find this book helpful in their pole vaulting journey. I love this book so much and I can't wait to gradually get back to vaulting after a hard reset. Best of luck!
We purchased this book after a recommendation from 2 high school pole vault coaches. The coaches know what they are doing. Their vaulters are constantly making the podium at the State Meet. As a parent of a new vaulter, I find the book helpful in understanding what they are teaching my daughter. She is new to pole vault, but took to it quickly as a gymnast. The pole vault process has a lot of parts. I haven’t gotten thru the whole book, but am already understanding more about it.
I spent weeks wondering if the cost of the book was worth it, given that I will not be coaching. I admit it was a good purchase.
The best book out there to helpful coaches and the videos that go along with the book are a must to see Shawn demonstrating the drills is super important,Robbie Robertson
Ordered as a gift--thanks for signing it and adding stickers. I am sure my son is going to love it!
